I have a Massey Harris Type 1 Hit and Miss Engine built between 1914 and 1922. Was my grandfather's. Planned to get it running so my father could see/hear it but don't have the time... and probably the knowledge. Anyway, it's time to get it out of my garage. I've been told that it is probably a 3 HP. The pictures have a 2' level in them to illustrate the size. The flywheel is 24" diameter and the piston is 4 1/2" in diameter. The engine turns over smoothly by hand and has compression. I have a chain fall in my garage and can lower into a pickup or trailer.
