We are looking to find a fitting forever home for our Golden Retriever female who has been an enormous part of our home and our family these past 3 months.

Apart from being an absolute snuggle bug and eager to learn, she does have some barriers that make our situation very difficult.

We are unfortunately unaware of any circumstance that would have caused her fear around new situations and she is quite nervous around children. She is dominant in her temperament and protective over her toys towards other dogs, not towards people.

She likes playing with other dogs and she loves all adults and older children.

She is amazing around our cats and she likes going for car rides.

We have been operating a family childcare program for 23 years and it is so difficult to watch her fear and panic anytime the children come close to the baby gate. Our Goldens, we have two older Goldens as well, are very loved and they are a part of our childcare although they are separated by a wooden baby gate while we are indoors ( they are free in our dining and living area), she will bark in fear and run away anytime the kids come near. Our children have never harmed any of our dogs, we teach respect for all animals as we operate a Nature and Forest program.

It is just such a frustrating and really sad situation.

I know we could work with trauma training but that will never eliminate the issue of trust around the children in her presence which is an enormous liability.

She is 6 months old and she has ample potential but she needs to be in a home without really young children.

I am really distressed about this entire situation because she is so loved and she is spoiled rotten and has made great progress in her training. She is incredibly smart and eager to learn. She has only been sleeping in her crate at night and she actually loves her crate. Apart from that, she is rarely alone because I work from home. We have made an effort to take her on outings alone, without the other dogs, to avoid separation anxiety. She also stays home alone without any complaints although she has never been home alone longer than 4 hours.

She has never been aggressive towards us and never aggressive towards the childcare children but she is quite fearful of the little children and a resulting reactive bite could potentially happen.

We will ONLY place her in a new home that has no other dogs and no small children.

We are willing to travel and could imagine her at the beach or on a beautiful acreage ( but she needs to be loved as a family member, not a farm dog) She currently lives in our family home that is situated on a beautiful mountain range. I do not want to place her in any big city, I think the noise and the bustle may be overwhelming.

She is completely vaccinated and she is Embark DNA tested and clear of all illness. She has a beautiful, silky, dark golden coat and she has been eating some of the best food ( First Mate large breed puppy with grains and Raw).

She has been snuggling up on the couch every evening for movie nights, she has been with us on public restaurant patios, joyfully greeted adult visitors (she does at times shy back and bark a very deep bark but then wags her tail and warms up quickly).

She is the absolute perfect companion for a calm and loving home where she would love to help with the gardening, go on walks, and play for hours in the water.

We will only accept applications from either a retired household or a work from home household without small children (babies or toddlers).

We are willing to travel and meet you to ensure that distance is not the hindering factor in finding the best home.
