Red Wiggler Compost Worms (Reds / Eisenia Fetida) for indoor and outdoor raising. Red wigglers (or their cocoons) will survive the winter outside in a large compost bin, garden bed, or raised bed. Add lots of organics to your bin throughout the winter to keep the bin hot and worms active! We recommend having both an indoor and outdoor compost bin, the indoor bin for regular composting and the outdoor for large batches of food scraps or as a backup.
Reds can tolerate a wide variety of temperatures between 0 and 35 degrees celsius but thrive in temperatures above 20 degrees celsius.

Feeding Tips:
• Moderation and variety is key- 1 cup of chopped kitchen scraps can feed 1/2 lbs of worms for 5-7 days
• Common foods worms will eat: fruits, vegetables, grains, compost, manure, paper products, yard waste
• Onion, citrus and garlic can be fed in small amounts mixed with other kitchen scraps and there will be no adverse effects
• Compost worms can also eat diary, meat, oils and fats in small amounts, however these can cause the bedding to have a foul odour
• Feeding small amounts more frequently can help control moisture, reduce pests, and avoid the food heating up
• The smaller and softer the food, the faster the worms can eat it. Making food scrap smoothies is an excellent way to speed up feeding
• Storing kitchen scraps in your freezer before feeding will help control pests and odours

Vermicomposting, also called vermicomposting, refers to the transformation of organic waste by worms. This is a natural, odorless aerobic process that is very different from conventional composting. Earthworms ingest organic waste and then excrete dark, odorless and fertile manure, as well as sludge granules rich in organic matter that are an excellent soil amendment. Worm manure is a ready-to-use fertilizer that can be applied in greater quantities than compost, since its nutrients are released at a rate that is suitable for growing plants.
