A beautiful pair of very rare and fully restored AR 2ax speakers
The following work has was recently completed (Feb 2025):
- Cabinets stripped, sanded and refinished in multiple coats of Danish oil.
- Tweeters replaced with reputable 3/4" domes that were built for this speaker (and other AR's using the 3/4" dome). The weak spot for these speakers has always been the aged tweeters - these new replacements were manufactured to provide "like new" highs. They drop into the cabinets perfectly and look and sound wonderful. This upgrade was done this month at a cost of $290 (receipts available).
- New grill cloth
- Woofers refoamed.
- Potentiometers were pulled, dismantled, and cleaned - they now work like new.
- New Aluminum tweeter / mid level knobs for pots
- Gold plated binding posts added to accept modern speaker wire connections
- Original grill badges deoxidized and polished
This set was built in 1973 and the sound is pure acoustic suspension joy - outstanding lows, clear and smooth mid / highs. You can listen to these for hours. For vinyl lovers, these are outstanding.
These require a fair bit of power to open up - low wattage amps need not apply.
