Everyone shares a sense of responsibility for this gem of an island that remains off the beaten path. Community members host fundraisers and craft fairs for firefighting equipment and other projects throughout the year. Most shopping is done off-island, with the exception of a few craft fairs, bake sales and home-based businesses (mechanics, tree fallers, RMT, artisans and artists, potters, and many builders and handymen live and work on Mudge)

Most anything you need can be purchased and boated over from nearby Gabriola Island or Nanaimo. Local barge companies provide transport for vehicles, oversized materials and moving vans.
