We currently stock 2 types of Woodchips.
Our Premium Woodchips are made from solid softwood. These chips are made slightly larger to
reduce compaction and provide a longer life. They are typically 1/4''- 1” thick and 3/4''- 4' long' in size.
Our Econo Woodchips are made from lower quality wood or from tops/limbs from land clearing when
available. This creates a chip which is less consistent in size (often smaller with some large chunks)
with a higher amount of fines/sawdust and/or leaves/needles. While this product will not last as many
years as our premium product, it is cheaper, will pack better, and is preferred by some customers for
walking/cycling paths.
Woodchips:
1. Reduce Watering - Greatly slow down soil moisture loss
2. Reduce Weeding - Compete with shallow rooting weeds for nitrogen in the soil's surface. This
makes them excellent for deep root plants such as shrubs and trees as well as for mulched paths.
3. Age to a lovely silver/gray without the need of any coloring
4. Last for years
5. Are more cost effective and sustainable than colored mulches as they last as long and don't
require colorants that have to be imported
6. Are renewable and come from our local forests
Caution:
1. Since fresh woodchips and sawdust will absorb nitrogen from the soil they are in direct contact with,
They should not be mixed them into a garden or placed over seeds you are trying to germinate.
2. You can make paths of woodchips and sawdust in a garden but do not till them into your garden
until they are fully decomposed. This could easily take 4 years or more. Using woodchips or
sawdust that is already partially decomposed and/or adding a source of nitrogen will greatly
accelerate the process.
We sell our Premium Woodchips in bulk for $44.00 per yard and $22.00 per 1⁄2 yard, tax included.
Our Econo Woodchips sell in bulk for $30.00 per yard and $15.00 per 1⁄2 yard, tax included.
We also offer discounts for orders over 50 yards.
We stock the Premium Woodchips in 2.3 cubic foot bags for $8.50 tax included. Although we do not
usually bag the Econo Woodchips we can if someone places an order.
