Whether you stick it in your gigbag pocket as a backup to your regular amp rig, or stick it on your pedal board and not have to break your back carrying your amp, the Ampman Classic is a perfect solution!
This is not a tube amp... but H&K have designed it to feel like one, from the tone stack (which is a presence and resonance, emulating a "treble" and "bass" control for the power amp) to the sagging control (use with the channel volume to emulate the unique thickness, drive and compression you get from pushing power tubes hard!) The "Tone" on each channel is not your standard low pass pot, but could be better described as a "scoop" control, pushing top and bottom and scooping mids as you turn it clockwise, while pushing mids and cutting highs and lows as you turn it counterclockwise.
The gain ranges from pristine clean to Marshall Plexi on the A channel, and crunchy to rip-your-face-off on channel B. The "boost" footswitch gives you more drive on either channel, so you can switch between 4 different gain levels with your feet, plus there's a separate "solo" switch to give you a post-gain volume lift for solos. There's also a very useable noise gate that can be set to a different level per channel.
The built-in power amp gives you up to 50-watts at 4 ohms, and it's power is rated more like a tube amp's, so it IS loud... if you need more volume than this at a gig, you'll be running everything through a PA anyway! Speaking of which, the well-known/well-loved Redbox speaker/mic emulator/DI is built-in, providing 8 different and very useful cab sims. You can use it live through a PA, into a recording board, or out to a powered speaker if you really feel like you need more volume onstage (spoiler alert... you won't!)
The switchable FX Loop is great for delays/reverbs/mods.
If you're sick of hauling amps around but not ready to go to an all-in-one modeler, this is a great solution! It has a fantastic sound, the best feel of any solid state or digital amp I've ever played through, and can sit with some pedals on a medium sized board and plug into a small cab (&/or the PA!) I have been using the two Vox 1x8" cabs (included) in parallel to get the full 50 watts and, even through that, it sounds amazing! Through a 4x12, it's a BEAST!
The two Vox BC108 cabs ($209.99 plus tax EACH at L&McQ) are included!! The entire package would cost you well over $900 new....
