Job title: Part-Time Personal Care Attendant (PCA)

Salary: Starting at $20-$23/hr (based on experience)
Job Description
As a Personal Care Attendant, you will be supporting a 35y/o woman with multiple disabilities and medical diagnoses to thrive in her home and in the community. The ideal candidate will be reliable, flexible, and a critical thinker with an interest in learning new skills and embracing new experiences. The successful candidates will be self-motivated, able to work as part of a team, and capable of following protocols.
Training will be provided for all tasks, regardless of experience.
While no previous training or experience is required, all candidates must be comfortable with the following:
- Providing physical assistance
- Assisting with bathing and dressing
- Bodily fluids
- Medical/wound care (G/J Tube, Catheter, Ostomy, Central line, etc.)
- Animals (cats, dogs, horses, etc.)
The successful part-time candidates should be able to commit to the position for a minimum of 6 months. Note: Students will be given additional consideration to accommodate their schedules on a term-by-term basis.

Key Responsibilities
This position will require a broad range of workplace duties and activities including but not limited to:
Assisting with Activities of Daily Living such as:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Meal preparation
- Laundry
- Light housekeeping
- Making and changing the bed regularly
- Perform skin checks for pressure injury and skin integrity assessment
- Carry out a daily Passive Range of Motion and Stretching routine as taught by a Physiotherapist
- Assist with a variety of transfers into and out of bed, chairs, wheelchairs, vehicles and other surfaces as needed
- Positioning in bed
Assist with a number of care tasks with direct supervision, using a self-directed care model including:
- Suprapubic catheter care (emptying the catheter bag, changing it out, assisting with bladder irrigation, etc.)
- Ileostomy care (changing the ostomy appliance, emptying the ostomy bag regularly, monitoring skin integrity around the stoma, etc.)
- Setup sterile fields and change sterile and non-sterile dressings
- Prepare medications for administration by G/J tube
- Setup and prepare IV (intravenous) infusions
- Other routine medical support and care as needed
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide accompaniment for a variety of routine medical appointments in both Kingston and the surrounding area and the Greater Toronto Area
- Assist with hospital admissions and discharges at Markham Stouffville Hospital
- Provide accompaniment for activities in the community such as shopping, routine errands, therapies, and occasional events
- Assist with Service Animal care and maintenance
- Follow care plans and complete routine documentation as required
- Drive a wheelchair accessible minivan and use a built-in tie down system to secure the wheelchair when driving
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Eligibility to work in Canada during the time of your employment
- First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Ability to lift and assist with transfers (Training will be provided)
- Personal transportation to and from work is required as the location is not transit accessible (Free parking and a $3 travel incentive per shift is provided)
- G2/G drivers license is a significant asset
- American Sign Language knowledge is an asset
