I saw a boat like this, at the Falls Point Wharf, when I was very young. It had a canvas spray at the bow, and there was no house like the other Cape Island boats at that time. It was also more narrow than most of the other wooden boats.
The boats at the time all used rollers for hauling traps. They also used a winch where the drive was a car axle driven by belts to the engine. The heist was similar to modern ones, with the line being pinched between two metal plates.
This boat had an old-fashioned winch, where you wrap the line around and haul on the line to bring up the trap. I was intrigued that such a setup could work.
Note that the only navigation instruments aboard were a clock and a compass. This was common at the time.
