Researchers at Baycrest Health Sciences (affiliated with the University of Toronto) are currently seeking participants for an interview-based study with older adults with hearing loss. During these interviews, we will discuss how older adults with hearing loss experience their hearing and cognitive health. Our aim is to improve our understanding of how public and/or commercial messaging around hearing and cognitive health might impact self-perceptions and treatment seeking behaviours in individuals with hearing loss.
This research project will involve one remote session, conducted via Zoom, which will last ~1 hour. During this session, we will conduct a conversational interview together, where I will ask you some questions about your experiences with your hearing. During the interview, you may be asked to discuss your hearing and cognitive health, and how these may have impacted your social behaviours, emotional experiences, and self-perception. The interview will be audio recorded for transcription and later analysis.
You will also be asked to complete a few questionnaires concerning your health and other demographic information, your hearing abilities, and your cognitive health (~20 minutes).
You will be compensated at $20/hour in appreciation of your participation, sent via mailed cheque.
This study is open to Canadian residents only. Individuals who are 55 years old or older with or without a diagnosed hearing loss are eligible to participate in this study. Participants may have normal, corrected to normal, or impaired vision. Participants must be native English or proficient English speakers, due to the conversational nature of the study.
