Professional Singing Lessons / Vocal Coach / Artist Development

Description

Hello! As of September 2024 I will once again be a resident of Saskatoon (moving home from Toronto to raise my family) and am hoping to build a long-term roster of students (ages 8 ). I moved to Toronto to pursue a career in music in 2006. Since then I have released 6 albums, toured 20 countries, and taught hundreds of students of all skill levels for over a decade. I am still part of a professional, touring singing group and sometimes need to take a couple of weeks off to go perform across Europe, U.S.A. or Asia. I bring this worldly experience and the stories back to my teaching practice!

On top of being a performer, I am a vocal arranger, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, YouTube partner, and grant-funded composer. I've written jingles for radio stations, theme songs for video games and a full-length Children's album. While I have sung in professional choirs and classical music gigs, my passion lies in contemporary vocal technique and genres. I am trained in jazz but the same vocal techniques will be applied to pop, rock, soul, etc.

Above all else, I LOVE to teach and share my knowledge of music. To those who are seeking something deeper, my lessons may involve a degree of mentorship and personal growth. If you're seeking greater meaning in life and a connection to your inner child, your artistic expression or a greater universal love like self worth/curiosity, I may be a mentor you've been looking for. Or perhaps you're interested in music as stress relief, for therapeutic reasons or purely recreation. Many of my adult students' lessons are like live karaoke sessions where we learn and play new songs for fun. Right now I am only offering lesson to ages 8 . I look forward to connecting with you!

I typically provide lessons one on one but can also offer my services to couples, as well as harmony singing sessions and workshops for small groups/ensembles and in the classroom.

Voice lessons/Artist Development are an exciting way for you to learn about your own body and to continue your growth by practicing a skill that is both rewarding and enjoyable. I provide detailed information about anatomy and how to use your "singing muscles", while being a positive role model and creating a therapeutic space to express yourself. I aim to teach for understanding, so later in life you can easily transfer your skills to learn other instruments and 'speak the language' to play music with other people. But of course, before we build on musicianship, we will learn the foundations of good technique in our first lessons together. I especially love to teach and work with people with no experience!

Lessons may look different for each person and will be catered based on the learning goals of individuals! A typical hour would include 20 minutes of technique practice, and 40 minutes of working on a song together. Maybe you want to gain more confidence for karaoke, to write your own songs or to eventually move into a professional practice. Maybe you just want to make space for a creative outlet in your otherwise structured and busy life. I can help, and I promise we'll have a lot of fun working together!

I understand that for many people, it can be anxiety provoking to sing in front of a
stranger. I am an emotionally intelligent, radically vulnerable and loving person who
aims to create a safe space for conversation and an exploration of our instrument and any
anxieties that you might have around using it. Naturally, LGBTQ positive!

Please don't hesitate to contact if you have any questions – I'm happy to chat and I'm looking forward to connecting with great people!

I have a YouTube channel with 7 million views. Each month I arrange music, produce, mix and record the tracks, film and edit video, and promote it on several platforms.

I sing and tour with a vocal group called Accent. We are a 6-person, jazz-influenced ensemble with members living in 5 different countries who all met online through YouTube. We have recorded four studio albums and have toured across North America, Europe and Asia. Here is a video of us performing at the Royal Albert Hall for the second time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsb2RspEgY4

I am passionate about self-understanding and personal growth and created this video series about emotional intelligence to put some positive energy into the TikTok space. It is uploaded to YouTube here for easy sharing: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLskNX-_plEVIV_kletp53-qKYitEKVtUk
My goal is to provide mentorship in any way it is desired, whether it be in music, artistry, self-understanding or otherwise.

I hold Bachelor of Music and Education degrees from Humber and U of T (2011, 2013) and I have been teaching privately and touring since. For further education, I completed The Brain Story (2021): additional qualifications on psychology and healthy brain development through the University of Alberta.

My Philosophy of Teaching:
An hour of music lessons with me are more than just 60 minutes spent learning a new skill. It's time where you (or your child) spends with me. We'll spend time working on singing, breathing and technique but also talking, feeling, observing.. about anything that influences our ability to make authentic music that moves us. Lessons can be very structured or change based on upon how we feel each week. We might be chatting about music or the music industry and how to market yourself or playing and analyzing music from influential artists of the past. We may talk about jamming/playing in bands/working with other musicians, writing songs or arrangements, singing in harmony or even things in our personal lives. I have a lot of experience to share in and outside of music and it is my offering and gift to share my acquired knowledge with you.

I want to be, not only an amazing influence musically in your lives, but someone who offers stories and my own life experiences to help understand the bigger picture of music for pleasure or as a career. I want to connect with people and families that understand the importance of role models because I'm equally interested in building a positive relationship with you as I am with helping you learn more about your own voice. Vocal lessons should not only be informative, but also fun and engaging. Every person's voice is different and it's interesting to discover the unique traits of it for both you and I.
Above all else, I teach musicality, musicianship and artistry. Instead of just singing songs and having fun, you learn the theory and skills that help you understand other instruments should you want to learn them at any point in your life.

Testimonials from students / parents of students:

The words I can find to describe Danny undoubtedly will not do him justice.. but I will try. Danny has a gift for teaching. Not only for helping you learn and describing things in ways that you will understand, but he truly loves his practice and the connection we share. He has a remarkable ability to see you for who you are and where you are in life. He challenges me to be a better person and to continue growing, in and outside of music. Our lessons have evolved throughout the years from voice and piano lessons to songwriting and some recording work in his studio space. But what I've truly come to love most is the feeling of calmness that is so easy to settle into when I arrive. Working with Danny has been transformative and one of the most meaningful choices I've made in my adult life!

Danny is the best! A great talent and a true teacher and mentor. He has been my son's vocal coach for the past three years and has had a tremendous impact on his life. For the first year of lessons Danny would come to our house, and for the past two years the lessons have been at Danny's studio. He helped my son get into a college music program. I highly recommended Danny as a vocal teacher!

Danny has been teaching my son (who has transitioned from my daughter!) for 8 years and has been such an influential part of him growing up into a teenager. He is patient, talented, knowledgeable and very loving. Since he's been teaching in our home, I've had the pleasure of overhearing some of the wonderful conversations they've had (the ones kids sometimes don't want to talk to their mom's about!). Danny has become part of the family and we invite him to our birthday occasions because we love him!

I have been studying with Danny twice a week for two years. In our first lesson he thoroughly helped me understand the basics of singing. He is always identifying my bad singing habits and we work on "unlearning" them every week. I'm generally a pretty shy person and Danny has helped me tremendously with my vocal projection. He's also just a really cool guy and fun to spend time with!

I enjoyed our work together so much; it's hard for me to express exactly how much. You provide a safe space for your students, making it so much easier to lose any complexes we might have. I cannot believe the progress I made thanks to your flexibility, kindness and constant encouragement. I really look forward to working with you again next summer.
