Artist biography - "Gerda Christoffersen, born in Denmark in 1917 and died 2012, internationally know painter, spent most of her life in Canada and the United States studying the culture of North American Indians and was an authority on the subject. She also studied anatomy with H. G. Glyde of England. Christoffersen was once married to Saskatchewan Cree artist Noel Wuttenee, brother of renowned Native lawyer and activist William Wuttenee. Both Wuttenee and Christoffersen studied art at what is now known as Alberta College of Art and Design. She created the original style of the "Papoose Paintings" and is uninfluenced by any art trend or form."
