1968 AMC AMX 343 CID

History: This is a 2 door Hardtop “GO PACK” trim level fast back coupe. Purchased 3 years ago in Langley, BC as a fully painted project which needed final assembly. Car qualifies for Collector Plates in BC. Runs nicely with 2800 rpm at 100 km per hour with no pulls or vibrations. Less than 2000 miles on the build.

Body: Original #58A Hialeah Yellow paint with over-the-top black Racing Stripes. Bottom of floor is painted same colour. Newly chromed bumpers. Passes the magnet test with no evidence of filler.

Frame/Chassis/Suspension: Factory components in good condition. Rear leaf springs with gas shocks.

Engine: Rebuilt likely NUMBERS MATCHING 343 CID “TYPHOON” 280 HP V8. “T” CODE engine (born a 343 CID). Edelbrock Performer intake with Edelbrock 4 bbl carburetor. Edelbrock Performer Plus camshaft. Compression tested good and even. New starter and ring gear.

Transmission: Rebuilt 3 speed Command Automatic with floor console shifter.
Differential: Likely original Twin Grip limited slip with unknown gears.
Exhaust: Dual aluminized steel with stock exhaust manifolds.
Brakes: Original front disc and rear drums. All new components. “Big End” proportioning valve.

Wheels: Factory or period correct alloy with beauty rings.
Tires: Front Ultrex AS4 Touring 215 70R 14 and BF Goodrich 235 60R 14 in the rear.

Interior: Black factory style interior in like new condition.

Extras included: Service Specifications Manual, Technical Service Manual, schematics and various documents. Car cover.
Options and Special Features: Power steering and power brakes. Original AM radio.

Known issues: Small exhaust rattle. Some scratches in paint on top of steering column. Some orange peel in the paint in areas – could use a polish. Few paint chips on leading edge of RH door and front RH wheel opening. A crack in one front black stripe. The usual bit of wind noise from the windows.
Reason for selling: Not driving the car.
