This is a one-owner 2000 Sharp GHC 12" x 36" type CQ6230 lathe purchased new from Sharp Machine Tools in North Vancouver in 2001. It did some test cuts to confirm its accuracy, it was briefly set up with power in a heated home shop, never used and then put into heated, dry storage for 20 years. It is in new condition.
The CQ6230 is still in production and sold as a Grizzly G4003 and a King KC1236ML, for instance. As far as home shop lathes are concerned the CQ6230 is at the top of the heap for its price and the version sold by Sharp is of particularly good quality. It is also a substantial lathe at 450 kg.
The lathe is currently off its (rudimentary but functional) stands on a furniture dolly. The bedways in the photo are covered with a piece of plywood to prevent harm from wayward objects in storage. The crappy photo with a mill table blocking the view in the foreground is unfortunately the only photo I have with the lathe set up.
