Welcome to Lavender Meadows Hamstery, the only ethical breeder of Syrian hamsters in the Lower Mainland. Our hamsters are ethically bred, happy, healthy, and raised in a family setting. We take pride in producing Syrian hamsters with friendly, gentle, and natural temperaments, and an above-average lifespan. We always have a waiting list. Our hamsters are also an ethical alternative to hamsters from rodent mills sold in pet shops (think puppy mills).

Raised in a socialized environment, our hamsters are well-adjusted and ready to bond with their new families. The adoption fee is 80 broken down into a 15 deposit and 65 adoption fee. There is a minimum 2-6 month wait time to ensure that the mother hamsters are not being overbred and are bred after 4 months of age.

** Safe and Tested Shipping: We offer safe, tried, and tested shipping via pet airplane shipping across Canada if you are out of province (BC). If you are in the lower mainland of BC, you are expected to pickup or we can discuss delivery. We deliver to Victoria for FREE. The shipping cost averages between $50 to $120.**

ADOPTION PROCESS BELOW

The process:
1. Fill out the adoption application (link below). Message us on any of our platforms to speed up the reply process. There is a $15 non-refundable deposit that must be paid to hold your spot on the waitlist. This is deposit after we respond to your application (usually same day)

2. During the waiting period, adopters are expected to research hamster care and gather the necessary supplies. We have an online shop for supplies!

3. When the pups are ready for adoption, you will be either matched with a pup or be able to choose. Pups are matched based on personalities and what you are looking for. All pups are usually well-socialized and great with handling. The total adoption fee is $80, with $15 deposit and the $65 remaining is to be paid at the time of adoption. An adoption contract is to be signed at the time of adoption.

How does shipping work?

We sent two hamsters in May 2024 to Edmonton - check out our social media to see our post on it.

Shipping will be via a direct or transfer flight from YVR airport to the destination airport. Flights are usually 160-180 cad. To keep the shipping fee affordable, we ship a group of hamsters to one location at once for a group of adopters. This means that if 4 adopters are waiting for a hamster in calgary we will ship out 4 hamsters.

The cost is split between all adopters who are getting a hamster on the flight.

The hamsters are shipped in a well-ventilated plastic carrier with ventilation on all sides and top. The hamsters are placed in baskets made out of mesh inside the carriers that are secured with zip ties and wires. The mesh basket will prevent the hamster from chewing out of the plastic carrier. Every hamster will have its mesh basket. So in a shipment with 3 hamsters, we will have 3 mesh baskets with 1 hamster in each. Each mesh basket will be labelled for every respective adopter. You can see the photos attached to show how the process works.

The process works by us (LMH) booking the flight via phone. Then the hamsters will be dropped off at the airport where they'll be checked in and will be kept in a temperature-controlled room. On the same day, they will board their flight until they arrive at their final destination. After they arrive for about an hour, adopters will be able to pick the hamsters up. A lot of coordination and planning is required amongst adopters and us as the process requires constant communication and being updated at all times.

Pretty safe process for the hammies as its during the day so hopefully they sleep through the flight! The workers at the airport are also very good with handling them
