Psychopomp is a short film about a man who becomes addicted a drug which may allow him to visit the afterlife.

No pay as this is a self funded project but gas and food will be provided for set days.

Rehearsals in Leslieville throughout Summer, shooting the film (5-6 weekend days) end of Summer.

We are casting for the three lead roles:

1. Reynard, male mid 20s to 40

Reynard is an experimental noise musician who relishes in his own pretentiousness. He loves his live-in girlfriend Marianne but harbours resentment that she might become more successful than him (even though he claims to not crave public recognition for his music).

He works at a bar with his friend and sometimes dealer Sherry, but is oblivious about her feelings towards him.

After Marianne passes on, he shrinks away from his loved ones throughout a long grieving process. He feels intense guilt due to missing her final performance which she died during.

Reynard uses sarcasm as a shield, and can be described as emotionally unavailable and aloof.

Bonus if you have talent in music production (DAWs and/or instruments)

2. Marianne, female mid 20s to 40

Marianne is an ambitious ballerna that has risen through the ranks of the National Ballet of Canada, and has now been offered the principal role in Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. Marianne and Reynard are in a relationship, have been living together a few years.

Marianne is sarcastic with Reynard — but also extremely kind hearted and trusting. However, she harbours a deep sadness, as she feels Reynard belittles her artistic practice and wishes he could be more supportive. This has led to some tension in their relationship.

Bonus if you have ballet or general dance experience.

3. Sherry, female mid 20s to 40

Sherry works at the same bar as Reynard. She's a punk with a heart of gold. She sometimes deals pills and powders on the side to supplement her somewhat meager income from the bar.

She has been secretly harbouring romantic feelings towards Reynard. After the death of Marianne, she has been trying to support him emotionally and cover shifts for him at the bar.

When she finds out about Psychopomp from her supplier, she thinks of Rey and how it might be perfect for him to be able to say his goodbyes and move on.
