This is the 440cc slightly smaller TOUR VERSION of the famed MAVRIK 'Sub Zero' (Callaway's traditional name for its models intended for better, low handicap and pro players...). In this particular case 'Sub Zero' would refer to the interchangeable front and rear sole weights-- a light 2g aluminum one and a heavy 14g tungsten one... keeping the heavy weight in the back port results in a higher ball flight and a bit more spin; interchanging them and putting the heavy one up front does the opposite, lowering the ball flight and scrubbing spin pretty significantly... The MAVRIK made some pretty serious noise a few seasons ago because Callaway finally listened to its tour staff and better players, who were asking for all the great performance enhancements that came with the Epic Flash model (AI computer modeled, incredibly hot-faced, "jailbreak" crown and face stabilizing technology...) but please, Big C, make the darn thing sound better, wouldja? The universal criticism from better players on the Epic Flash was its hollow, tank-y 'clank' it made at impact. And boy did they ever deliver with MAVRIK. THIS THING SOUNDS SO, SO SOLID, so hearty, so... perfect! Every tour pro on Callaway's tour staff switched when it debuted, and alot refused to give them up. While Phil won his PGA Championship in 2021 with a driver painted up with the then-new Epic livery, it was this very club here with different paint that he was hitting his 350 yard bombs with...)


Callaway TOUR VAN versions are demarcated by 1 or 3 small 'diamond(s)' on the back of the hosel, and a "TC" serial number-- see the pics for this particular one's such demarcations. TOUR VERSIONS have spec-ground faces to be exactly at the USGA C.O.R. legal limit for face deflection and spring-like effect. You will note that the "bullseye" face markings that are on the regular-for-retail versions, are absent here (because the face is milled...)


The 440cc version showed up on the USGA's approved legal driver list a few weeks before the intro of the line, foretelling that maybe someone on tour was asking for one-- reportedly in response to a certain Lefty's desires. Callaway did a small, highly-exclusive, custom production run for their staff. To get one, you kind of have to be tapped into that world. I still kinda am.


She presents wayyyy cleaner and way more classically pear-shaped than regular MAVRIK models. She truly is gorgeous. And dead square. Of course she has Callaway's highly adjustable hosel to dial in your perfect loft and lie and face-angle combos. And to top things all off, she has Mitsubishi DIAMANA 70-gram Stiff flex shaft.


Lookin' for TOUR-length, huge additional yards off the tee decks? Maybe it's time to see what advantage the big boys have access to in terms of highly specialized hardware.


These heads still fetch around
$300-$400 US (after being in the $1000 range!). Add a couple-hundred for your special shaft of choice and you're at a few hundred more and importing one only adds duty and stupid taxes at the border. But here? Here in small, small little Canuckville, in Canuckvillian loonies? You can have this gem for way less.
