Job Title: Summer Student Labourer

Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and reliable Summer Student Labourer to assist our team in various tasks at our urban sawmill. This temporary position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment while supporting our commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist with Material Handling: Help unload incoming wood materials and organize them within the sawmill facility. Assist in moving lumber and other materials using hand tools and equipment as needed.
2. Operate Machinery: Under supervision, learn to operate basic machinery such as planers, and sanders and mobile equipment such as forklifts. Must follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
3. Maintain Cleanliness: Keep work areas clean and organized, including sweeping floors, disposing of waste materials, and ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored after use.
4. Support Production Processes: Assist sawmill staff in various production tasks, such as cutting, milling, and finishing wood products. Learn basic woodworking techniques and contribute to the assembly of finished products.
5. Adhere to Safety Regulations: Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Participate in safety training sessions as required.
6. Assist in Special Projects: Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by supervisors. This may include assisting with inventory management, preparing shipments, or making deliveries/pickups.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a high school or post-secondary program.
• Interest in woodworking, construction, or related fields.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
• Physically capable of performing manual labor tasks in an industrial setting.
• Basic knowledge of safety protocols and practices is an asset.
• Valid Class 5 Manitoba drivers license (class 1 and 3 and asset)
Duration and Compensation: This is a temporary full-time position available for the duration of the summer months April – September. The successful candidate will receive competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
