I've chosen to make hexagon shape planters even though they are a lot more work than square ones.
I love the shape and feel it adds more curb appeal.
I use 5/4” cedar boards which make the planter stronger, heavier and sturdier.
Cedar has natural preservatives that prevent rot and decay but I've also coated it with Penofin one of the best cedar stains on the market. It also enhances the beauty and the character of the cedar grain. This planter will last you a very long time.
Although I prefer to put pots in mine, I inserted slats for drainage so you can simply use landscape fabric or burlap etc, instead of a pot if you like.
I have attached rubber feet to the bottom to further prevent rot , as well as protecting the wood from scratching your deck surface if moved around.
The opening is 14 inches between the top rim
Internal depth is 14 1/2 inches to the top of the rim
Outside at its widest point is 22 inches
Outside to the top rim is 16 1/2 inches.
$100 EACH.
