This is a pretty intriguing item. If you do a google search on the term “Spanstig” you will get multiple hits. The item was in the 1989 IKEA catalogue in the storage bench section. As is obvious, it's been designed to look very much like vaulting box – as used in gymnastics. It is made of solid strong pine and I'm sure it actually could be used in that role.

Otherwise, it is brilliant in the kid's bedroom storage bench for clambering around/ on top of - and providing lots of storage space for cleaning up toys into its three storage sections. The top section is accessed by lifting the upholstery foam custom covered lid. The second storage section has a door that open outward for easy access. The bottom features a sliding drawer that pulls out. According to the web some couples also use these for gymnastics.
